NYIT (New York Institute of Technology) has an opening for a savvy, experienced PR strategist who will seek out, develop, and place NYIT‚s outstanding stories and messages in traditional and digital media in order to elevate and enhance NYIT‚s reputation locally, regionally, and globally. The responsibilities of the PR strategist, based at NYIT‚s Old Westbury, NY campus, include:





· Leveraging public relations and storytelling skills as core member of the Media Relations team. Support overarching goals of brand and reputation building by pursuing and securing news coverage in line with strategic and institutional priorities, with special emphasis on the College of Osteopathic Medicine and School of Health Professions. Monitor relevant analytics (reach, readership/viewership, shares, etc.). and share results widely. Repurpose content to extend messages among additional audiences.

· Develop and execute PR strategies: collaborate with colleagues to develop key messages for thought leadership pieces; build and nurture media relationships through proactive pitches and targeted advisories; continually research outlets and journalists to expand PR capabilities; leverage software/online tools and media services (MuckRack, Newswise, ProfNet/HARO, etc.) to promote faculty expertise. Respond strategically to queries with appropriate statements and information. Incorporate social media into PR activities.

· Develop/maintain robust digital newsroom content; generate frequent news releases and expert pitches and prepare faculty and staff to serve as expert sources; share content with journalists and media outlets.

· Manage/develop special projects, including but not limited to website blog copy, video and brochure messaging, conference materials, and crisis/emergency communications.

· Other duties as assigned, including occasional domestic travel (including Manhattan).





Requirements

Qualifications:


· Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred

· Prior expertise in Media/Public Relations required; preferred expertise in Science, Medicine/Healthcare or Non-Profit/Higher Education.

· Familiarity with and established contacts at national and regional media; editing; event marketing; key subject areas relating to NYIT's expertise and higher education; media monitoring and news services; industry best practices.

· Superior communications (written, verbal); ability to seek out and develop news stories, releases, web and social media content; story pitching; research and interviewing; multitasking/prioritization; project management. MS Office Suite (inc. PowerPoint), Photoshop, HTML or web content management system skills.

· Strategic thinking and listening; must be well-organized; poised, professional, engaging, and able to prioritize; adherence to tight deadlines; proven record of successful media placements; adept at translating highly technical information and distilling it into a compelling story for public/media consumption; good instincts for newsworthy/pitchable material. Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
